Horn player Emily Boyer aspires to cultivate community and creativity through music. Emily is an instructor at Connecticut College, Naugatuck Valley and Middlesex Community Colleges, and Educational Center for the Arts. In her horn teaching, Emily focuses on helping students imagine what they can achieve and then acquire the skills they need to achieve it. Students learn to work strategically and creatively toward their goals. Through private lessons and practice, horn students will develop the ability to play horn in diverse styles and situations, understand the horn and horn repertoire in cultural context—both historical and contemporary, participate in the community of music and arts colleagues, and experience the joy of performing for listeners. Through these supports, her students have earned positions in summer music festivals, CMEA regional, CMEA all-state, and national ensembles.

As a performer, Emily is passionate about showcasing new music and honoring music from the past. She co-founded the horn and harp duo Apple Orange Pair in 2010 to grow the contemporary repertoire and connect audiences with this unexpected pairing. With Apple Orange Pair, Emily has collaborated with composers to premier new works, performed concerts around the country, and released the album Seeds on disc and streaming online. In Connecticut, Emily has performed with New Haven, Greater Bridgeport, Eastern Connecticut, and Waterbury Symphony Orchestras, and is a member of the New Haven-based brass quintet, Brass.

Emily holds degrees from Yale School of Music, Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and Interlochen Arts Academy. Her mentors and horn teachers include Denise Tryon, William Purvis, Peter Landgren, and Julie Schleif. www.emilyboyer.com
