End of the Year HDA Banquet 2023-2024!

Boxes

The pandemic forced all of us out of our daily lives and into the safe refuge of our homes; our tiny boxes. Safe but secluded, we quickly realized how much we depend on boxes: the ones we lived in; Amazon and Peapod delivery boxes; Zoom boxes; mailboxes and ballot boxes. This original production developed from student accounts of the last 6 months follows sixteen characters through the summer of 2020 showing how they deal with PPE masks, boredom, connections with others and, frankly, coping.

The style of this show, too, came from following Covid-19 restrictions. Each of the 16 actors has a custom-made professional character mask from Strangeface Masks in England. Underneath the character mask, they wear their protective PPE and in some cases the character masks wear PPE!

With no more than four actors on stage at the same time distance is maintained. We hope to have a limited live audience able to enjoy this show before Thanksgiving; however, it will be recorded and shared on this site.

Play to Podcast

Facing the school closing and a nationwide quarantine, the cast and crew of the 2020 spring production re-imagined this ground breaking play as a serial podcast. Students recorded at home and technicians edited the separate sound clips together. The company also met influential members of the LGBGTQ and studio recording artists including Alex Scott, Serra Hirsch and Jim Conroy.

The podcast was recognized with a Seven Angels Theater Halo Award for Innovation.
